By Derek Henshaw and Al Atkinson
The origins of this book, I suppose really go back to the late 1950's when four teenage lads would meet several nights a week. Meeting in The Old Market Square one particular evening and being unable to agree on what to do or where to go someone said,' I know. Let's go in every pub in Nottingham'. Little did we realise how seriously that comment would be taken. We finished with a total of 451. I listed those pubs in a book at the time, together with their addresses and respective breweries. I still have the book for the record. Little did we realise how it would become a part of Nottingham's social history.
A unique collection of photos accumulated over many years and available for the first time in this downloadable publication.
30 pubs are featured in this first volume with many more to follow. Nottingham's Lost Pubs is a journey through time utilising a 'then and now' theme illustrating how quickly our pub landscape changes.
The publication is a tribute to Derek's late friend Brian Hayes who, between them embarked upon a city wide pub crawl in the 1950's recording what they saw as they went.
Nottingham's Lost Pubs is only available as a pdf download from Lulu.com.
